A TALENTED Motherwell man is aiming to raise almost £10,000 to help further his career.
Stephen Mullan has been accepted by the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama to study Musical Theatre.
But before the 26-year-old can take up his place he must raise almost £10,000 to cover the cost of the one-year course.
The former Our Lady’s High School pupil explained: “It's very frightening to think of the amount of money I need to raise, but I also know that I can't expect people to just give money away.”
In order to drum up support, Stephen of Nelson Crescent, has organised a concert in the Motherwell Miners’ Welfare Club, Ladywell Road.
The event, simply named 'SING!' promises to deliver a great night out, featuring favourites from the musicals, swing, pop and rock.
There will be something for everyone and there will also be a prize raffle and every ticket bought for the event will be entered into a cash prize draw.
Stephen has longed for stardom since primary one at St Brendan's in Motherwell.
He said: "I was the ugly duckling in the school play. I had a bright yellow beak over my nose. That was one of the first memories I have of being on stage and thinking 'Yes! This is for me!"
Upon leaving school, Stephen threw himself into studying musical theatre at Motherwell College and then travelled south for a year to the University of Hull to earn a BA (Hons) degree. He's had plenty of experience treading the boards, acting for Scottish Opera and performing on cruise ships and would relish the chance to hone his skills and make performing into a lasting career.
For Stephen, the chance to study at the same school as actors like David Tennant and Robert Carlyle would be a dream come true.
He said: “I can't let the cost of tuition fees hold me back. I'm putting my heart and soul into giving a great performance and with the help of local people, I am confident the night will be a success.'
