Finding the money to put your plans into action can be a major challenge, especially when you would rather be getting on with your activity than fundraising for it.So, to help get you started, the council's Arts Development team is bringing funders and sector specialists together to help anyone interested in the arts get the money they need.The South Lanarkshire Funding Fair is open to any voluntary arts groups or artist and any groups or individuals wanting to get involved in the arts.Representatives from National Funding Bodies such as the Heritage Lottery Fund, Arts and Business and Children in Need as well as local funders such as Voluntary Action Fund and the Scottish Community Grant scheme will be at the fair with lots of informative display stands and experts to answer all your questions.The event is taking place at Hamilton Town House on Friday 14 November from 2-5pm. Industrial action suspended

The industrial action that was planned for next week has been suspended.The Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) stated that the suspension of next week's strike action was good news for Scotland's communities.Councillor Michael Cook, COSLA's Human Resource Spokesman, said: "We have had a fruitful and productive meeting with our trade union colleagues."We have now explored every possibility and have managed to make them a new and improved offer which is the best that we can do."The unions have taken this deal away for consultation - but the good news for communities is that all strike action planned for next week has been suspended."

Tips on how to get funding

There are thousands of pounds of grants and funds available to voluntary arts organisations but how do you get access to the cash.Many individuals and organisations just don't know where to start with their funding application so to give them a boost the council has set up a workshop in Rutherglen Town Hall on Tuesday 7 October from 7-9pm.Staff will be on hand to offer you advice on the dos and don'ts when filling in an application and will guide you through the steps you need to take to locate and apply for grant programmes that you qualify for.The workshop is free but pre-booking is essential so please book now as places are limited.Booking forms and more information can be obtained by contacting Claire Diggle, Arts Development Officer on 01698 452176 or email claire.diggle@southlanarkshire.gov.uk

Families, friends and professionals involved in the care of children with additional needs are being invited to attend an information day tomorrow following the success of previous events.This free event will have stands with staff on hand to answer your queries from a wide range of voluntary agencies, NHS Lanarkshire, the council's Education, Social Work and Community Resources and Housing and Technical Services.There will also be health checks and complementary therapies such as aromatherapy, massage and beauty therapies available to anyone who is interested.Transport and a small crèche will also be available but must be booked in advance.Held at the Banqueting Hall, Council Headquarters, Almada Street, Hamilton, on Friday 3 October from 10am until 3pm, the event is organised by the Information for Carers of Children with Additional Needs in South Lanarkshire (ICCAN-SL) group.This group consists of parents and representatives from both voluntary and statutory agencies who have been working together to improve access to information and services highlighted following previous events.To find out more about this event and to book a crèche place or transport please contact the Child and Family Disability Resource Team on 01698 455541 or email anne.morrice@southlanarkshire.gov.uk
