Falkirk 0 Hamilton Accies 0 match report

HAMILTON bounced back from last week's horror show with a good draw at Falkirk. The hosts did well to have the game played despite overnight snow, but freezing fog descended for much of the first half.On a freezing cold afternoon there were few chances, but Accies coped well with everything that Falkirk threw at them.Hamilton's small band of fans in the 3024 crowd will have gone home significantly happier than last week, given the battling qualities shown by their team.Accies boss Billy Reid made six changes from the side which was humbled by Dundee last Saturday.Goalkeeper David Hutton was dropped to the bench, with his place taken by trialist Scott Christie, brought in from Bo'ness juniors.Ziggy Gordon, Mikey Devlin and Kiegan Millar dropped out of the squad entirely, while Gavin Anderson and Matt Paterson were on the bench. Lee Kilday, Kevin McBride, Ali Crawford and Stephen Hendrie came in, and Hearts loan striker Gordon Smith made his debut.Falkirk made the first real inroad on goal in 10 minutes when Mark Millar unleashed a 25-yard thunderbolt which Christie did well to parry, with Farid El Alagui flagged offside before he clipper the crossbar with his follow-up.Hamilton had a chance if their own in 14 minutes when Dougie Imrie's corner from the right was poorly cleared and McBride's volley was hacked off the line.If anything Falkirk stepped up a gear in the second half and Kieran Duffie's cross from the right was headed past the near post by El Alagui in 68 minutes.Ten minutes later Accies could have taken the lead when Jim McAlister and sub Paul Currie linked to set up Smith, but he pulled his low, angled shot just past the left post.Falkirk went close again in 79 minutes when David Weatherston latched onto a terrific reverse pass and darted down the right but his cutback was well blocked by Mark McLaughlin into Christie's path. The Bairns went close again in 80 minutes when Millar sent a dipping shot just over from 20 yards.El Aglui went close with a dipping shot that clipped the bar and bounced over five minutes later.Sub Anderson sent a low shot just past in 87 minutes. But Falkirk passed up the chance of the match in 88 minutes when Kallum Higginbotham raced down the right, found space and squared for Weatherston but he somehow blasted over from two yards out, when the ball hitting off his foot would have provided a certain winner. For Accies a point provided some stability ahead of Saturday's visit by Morton.FALKIRK: McGovern, Duffie, Scobbie, Dods, Wallace, Murdoch, Weatherston, Millar, El Alagui, Higginbotham, Sibbald (Fulton, 72). Subs (not used): Bowman, Bennett, Alston, Kingsley.Booked: Millar, El Aglui.HAMILTON: Christie, Kilday (Anderson, 53), McBride, Canning, Mensing, McLaughlin, Imrie, McAlister, Smith (Paterson, 82), Crawford, Hendrie (Currie, 75). Subs (not used): Hutton, Spence.Booked: McBride, Mensing.Referee: Craig Thomson.Attendance: 3024.
