First puppy gets book deal

HE HASN'T long settled into his new life at the White House, but Bo has already been lined up to star in his own children's book.

The latest member of the Obama family will be the central character of "Bo, America's Commander in Leash", with owner President Barack Obama only making a cameo appearance.

He will be seen in a number of adventures around the White House as he learns all about his new home. And one of his most important roles will be helping the Obama family settle into the Pennsylvania Ave address they have themselves only lived in for a few months.

The book about the Portuguese water dog will be published by Virginia company Mascot Books, and creators have been researching the book for two months, leaving gaps which Bo will now fill. Mascot Books' website proudly declares that the book will be "the first children's book starring the most famous dog in the world".
