ONE of the world's holiest sites descended into chaos as rival monks traded punches in a mass brawl.

The bizarre punch-up between Greek Orthodox and Armenian monks broke out during a ceremony at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem - thought to be the site of Christ's crucifixion and his tomb.

Shocked onlookers could only gasp in amazement as dozens of monks, many of them elderly, started throwing punches.
