Pupils complete kerbcraft training

A group of primary school pupils are celebrating after completing their Kerbcraft Road Safety Training.

The primary two pupils from St Ninian’s Primary School in Hillhouse, Hamilton, received a certificate and packed lunch box to mark their achievement.

Kerbcraft, a pedestrian training scheme set up by the Scottish Government, aims to reduce child pedestrian casualties and fatalities by assisting children to become independent pedestrians in the future.

There are three key skills which are taught over a four week period. These skills are:
- Skill 1 - choosing safer places and routes to cross the road
- Skill 2 - crossing safely between parked cars
- Skill 3 - crossing safely at junctions

Councillor John Murray, the chair of the council's Road Safety Forum, said: "As pupils progress through our schools we hope we are teaching them road safety skills which will stay with them throughout their lives.

"The Kerbcraft training is a very important part of this process and teaches young people key skills which are essential to crossing the road safely."
