Village news in brief

COMMUNITY police officers will be spot-checking licensed premises this weekend as a deterrent to youths either purchasing alcohol themselves or having someone purchase it for them.

The initiative takes place – Friday and Saturday, 27-28, – as the school holidays begin.

POLICE have been making enquiries about a stolen 45-foot trailer, with a red chassis and green body work.

After little progress in the case, police are appealing for witnesses or information to the whereabouts of the STC flat-bed standard trailer.

It was left in the forecourt of Avondale Services on Hamilton Road on Friday, May 9, by its East Kilbride owner, who regularly left it there and later coupled it up to the driver’s cab to make further deliveries.

The trailer was then moved by the owner of Avondale Service Station on to the main road to make room for a fuel delivery, but when the owner returned on Sunday, May 11, it was gone.

If you have any information on the trailer, which is valued at £12,000, please contact Community Police Officers Maryann Bolton or David Robson on 01357 520 222.

THREE people were each given a £40 on-the-spot fine during the Strathaven Gala Day.

One person was fined for drinking in the street, and two others were given fixed penalties for urinating in a public place.

They all have 28 days from the date of the offence to pay the fines.
