The club has had a busy time over the past few weeks.
The Ayr Show was held over the weekend of May 10 and 11, with prizes coming home.
In the Junior Handicrafts section where the theme was ‘Christmas Cheer’, the team of Janet Anderson; Stephanie Speedie; Jennifer Baillie; and Gillian Walker were placed 1st overall, with individual prizes of 1st Appearance and Display (Janet and Gillian); 1st Further Article - Set of Christmas Decorations (Janet); 2nd Floral Table Centre (Gillian); and 2nd 4 Mincemeat Pies (Jennifer).
Overall junior results - 1st Avondale; 2nd Kilmaurs; 3rd Ayr. In the senior section, the theme was “Childs Playroom”, they had 2 teams entered. Laura McKechnie, Jennifer Lindsay, Marion Logan, Karen Halley and Gillian Howatson made up the ‘A’ team, where individuals were 2nd Toy (Jennifer); and 3rd Appearance and Display (Jennifer and Karen). The ‘B’ team consisted of Susan Brown, Julie Smith, Varrie Dyet, Fiona McCluskey, Heather Meikle and Helen Loggie, where Individuals were 3rd Appearance and Display (Varrie and Heather); and 3rd Sewn Item of Clothing (Susan).
Unfortunately, none of the senior teams were placed but overall results were 1st Crossroads; 2nd Biggar; 3rd (equal) Lanark and Carluke. In the Stockjudging held on the Sunday, Avondale had both a junior and a senior team competing. Congratulations to our junior team of Robert McKechnie, Gillian Walker, and Louise Fleming who were placed 1st, with Ayr 2nd and West Renfrew 3rd.
The senior team of Andrew Currie, Jenna Ballantyne, and Varrie Dyet were not placed but results were 1st Crossroads; 2nd Mauchline, 3rd Annandale. Robert also went on to be placed 2nd in the individuals with a score of 276 out of a possible 300, with Russell Davidson (Crossroads) beating him with a score of 280.
Sunday, May 11, was the car treasure hunt where 20 cars left Sandford Hall.
The results were 1st Christine and Alan Hall, 2nd Jimmy Anderson, 3rd Marshall Harkness. Martin Weir won the booby prize.
Friday, May 16, was the interclub sports night. Nine teams took part in the netball and nine in the tootball tournaments.
The results were: netball - 1st East Kilbride, 2nd Lesmahagow, 3rd Avondale.
Football - 1st Carluke, 2nd Avondale, 3rd Lesmahagow.
A dance was held after the tournament and was very well supported., Thanks to everyone who attended.
Tuesday, May 27, saw the club’ s annual mock auction and valuation at Laigh Carnduff Farm by kind permission of the Bryson family.
The results were: ladies - 1st Gillian Howatson, 2nd equal Kylie McAllister and Jennifer Lindsay.
Gents - 1st Scott Nicol, 2nd Robert Reid, 3rd Wilson Frame. The ladies side competition was won by Christine Foster whilst the gents side was won by Robbie Russell.
The cover for the winter syllabus was judged as follows: 1st Heather Meikle, 2nd Jennifer Baillie, 3rd Gillian Walker. Well done to the team of Jenna; Gillian H, Evelyn, Christine F, Gillian W, and Laura F who were 3rd at Biggar’s netball tournament on May 25.
