Steel stolen from yard

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after £30,000 worth of steel was stolen from a builders’ yard.

A blue articulated trailer containing the 24 tonnes of painted grey steel was stolen from a building site on Station Road, in Strathaven.

Just days earlier, over night from April 24 to 25, a JCB had also been stolen, this time from James Hamilton Heritage Park, in East Kilbride.

The steel was stolen between 3.30pm on Sunday, April 27, and 5.30am on Monday, April 28.

Sergeant Scott McCutcheon, of East Kilbride Police, said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who saw anything in the local area at the time of the thefts, or anyone who has any information about the whereabouts of the stolen property.

“All information will be treated in confidence.

“Those with information should contact CID officers on 01355 54600.

“Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where calls are free and can be made anonymously.”
