Young Farmers lose out in tug of war contest

AT the Lanarkshire tug of war competition, the Avondale and District Young Farmers Club YFC gents teams failed to reach the finals.

However, the local side thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the competition.

Congratulations go to the club for their efforts and the final placings were: 1, Lesmahagow/Lanark; 2, Biggar and 3, Carluke.

In the Ladies section the results were: 1, Carluke; 2, Biggar and, Lesmahagow/Lanark.

The club’s annual football and netball tournament is tomorrow (Friday) at Brancumhall, East Kilbride, starting at 6.30pm.

Anyone is interested in playing should contact the relevant conveners.

The club are also holding a dance after the tournament in the Strathaven area.

The annual mock auction this year is being held at Laigh Carnduff Farm, by kind permission of the Bryson family, on Tuesday, May 27 at 7.30pm.

Those interested in taking part in this year’s syllabus cover competition, should bring their entry details along on the night.

Stockjudging training for the Royal Highland Show is now well underway.

Anyone still interested in entering should contact Iain Walker.

Hockey practice takes place on Sunday; football will be on Monday, and netball on Wednesday.

Membership is now due. Payment should be made to to James Fleming.

Costs are: seniors £28; juniors £25; and new members £18.
