Rotarians visit Strathaven counterparts

MEMBERS of Bothwell and Uddingston Rotary visited the Strathaven club to hear Donald Reid give a talk entitled ‘Close Shave in Cold Water’.

Accompanied by his wife, Donald was on a cruise around Spitzbergen when a tsunami-type wave of over 40ft came over their liner.

When the wall of water hit, Donald suffered a collapsed lung and four broken ribs.

Along with several other passengers and crew, he was placed in a stretcher before being lifted by crane into an inflatable boat then on to hospital.

Donald showed many slides of the event and of the cruise, most of which were taken by fellow passengers as his camera was damaged in the accident.
