Rotary members enjoy international concert

Strathaven Rotary president Nigel Thomson exchanges banners with ambassadorial scholar Eriko Tanno

MEMBERS of the Rotary Club of Strathaven last Monday enjoyed the well-attended International Concert which was held in the town.

Rotarian David Thomson reported on the successful event, which was held in the West Church.

Club President Nigel Thomson is pictured exchanging banners with ambassadorial scholar Eriko Tanno from Saitama City, a northern suburb of Tokyo, Japan.

Mr Thomson said: “Eriko is studying for an M.Sc. in Gender, Rights and Development at the University of Glasgow.

“Her particular interest is advancing the status of women in developing countries and the improvement of women’s mental and physical health through advocating activities.”

The vote of thanks was delivered by past-president Tom Allan, who, in his working life often visited Japan, representing Rolls-Royce.
