Young Farmers' class act at drama event

AVONDALE and District Young Farmers took part in the west area drama event at Centrestage, Kilmarnock.

The team comprised Susan Brown, Varrie Dyet, James Fleming, Wilson Frame, Rebbekkah Howat, Linda Gallacher, Gail McArthur, Heather Meikle, and Jamie Watson. Thanks to Bob Lambie for producing.

Unfortunately, the team were not placed but they had a great time.

On Tuesday, April 8, in the Ballgreen Hall, the club held their new members night.

At the Lanarkshire AGM in the senior points, Avondale took 1st place, Biggar 2nd and Carluke 3rd. In the junior points Carluke took 1st, Avondale 2nd and Biggar 3rd.

New office-bearers of the district are: chairman - James Drife (Biggar); vice-chairman - David Aitken (Carluke); secretary - Carol-anne Warnock (Lanark); assistant secretary - Susan McCornick (Carluke); treasurer - Andrew Barrie (Biggar); and assistant treasurer - Alan Smith (Avondale).

Lanarkshire Club of the Year saw Avondale 3rd, Lanark 2nd winners were Biggar.

At the West Assembly, Avondale came second in the points section.

Stockjudging training for the Royal Highland Show has re-commenced. Anyone interested should contact Iain Walker.

Sports practice: hockey - Sunday; football - Monday; netball - Wednesday; tug of war - Tuesday and Thursday.

Good luck to the teams competing at the Lanarkshire tug of war event at Biggar RFC on Sunday, May 4, and also to the handicrafts and stockjudging teams competing at Ayr Show on Saturday and Sunday, May 10 and 11.

Forthcoming events: Club bus to Ayr Show, Saturday, May 10, leaving Station Road, Strathaven, at 10am and returning home after the dance. Anyone wishing to go, contact Heather.

Also, on Sunday, May 11, the club are holding the annual car treasure hunt, with the first car leaving Sandford Hall at 6.30pm, £5 per car. All welcome.
