Teenagers prove worth by design

STRONG links between Strathaven Academy and the Rotary Club of Strathaven were evident at the annual Innovation and Design Awards competition sponsored by the local organisation.

The event was held in the Strathaven Academy Crosshouse Campus, East Kilbride.

The students’ ideas and practical works were assessed on a broad range of criteria by a team of experienced Rotarians.

The 2008 Junior Champion is Gavin Dunbar with his outstanding craft and design project of a bedside cabinet.

The 2008 Senior Champion is Ronnie Stephen with an excellent thematic graphics presentation of a bottom bracket for a bicycle.

The projects exhibited by the students were very varied and included woodwork, metalwork, fashion, textiles, architecture, photography and communications media.

The students, with their teachers and the Academy’s leadership, were congratulated on the standards achieved in the awards.

Strathaven Academy’s Ann Ramage, assisted by Billy Cochrane on behalf of the Rotary Club, co-ordinated the event.

This competition is one of a series of long-standing Rotary and school interactions in Strathaven which are designed to assist the promotion of the personal development of students.

The winners were congratulated by the club.
