Silence proves to be golden for charity

FIRST year pupils at Strathaven Academy last month gave their teachers a rare treat... complete silence.

The teachers enjoyed the silence as the pupils kept quiet for MacMillan Cancer Support’s annual sponsored silence The Big Hush.

Pupils rose to the challenge and raised £1211.66 for the charity.

During the silence pupils learned about the services that are funded by the money raised by MacMillan Cancer Support.

One pupil, Aqsa Ali, described the afternoon, saying: “Everyone enjoyed it and thought that this experience was well worth it as it was for a good cause and at the end of the silence, the whole class let out a big roar.”

Fiona Leitch, fundraising manager from the South of Scotland Team of MacMillan Cancer Support, visited Strathaven Academy last Friday, to accept a cheque from the pupils.
