Strathaven pupils treated to capital visit by MSP

strathaven primary pupils at Holyrood

FOURTEEN lucky youngsters from the Strathaven area had a trip to the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh recently as a reward for winning Strathaven Fairtrade Groups’ poetry and poster competitions.

The primary school pupils, two from each of the area’s seven primary schools, were met at the parliament by Strathaven-based MSP Linda Fabiani, Minister for Europe, External Affairs and Culture, and taken on a tour of the building.

And on Saturday, at an exhibition of their work in Strathaven’s East Church to mark Fairtrade Fortnight, Linda also had the happy task of presenting the youngsters with certificates marking their success in the poetry and poster competitions.

The winners were: Chapelton Primary School — Sarah Frame and Taylor McArthur.

Gilmourton Primary School — Sarah McAndrew and Adelaide Sciallo.

Glassford Primary School — Greg Queen and Ian Young.

Kirklandpark Primary School — Alex Meikle and Eleanor Porte.

St Patrick’s Primary School — Kieran Smyth and Kara Tedford.

Sandford Primary School — Lauren Clare and Morgan Tunaley.

Wester Overton Primary School — Catherine Lambie and Rhona Anderson.
