Back to fitness bid for county

SUFFERERS of back pain from across Lanarkshire will receive specialist exercise classes this week as part of Back Care Awareness Week.

NHS Lanarkshire operate “Back to Fitness” classes in conjunction with Leisure Services in North and South Lanarkshire.

Lorna Hart, a physiotherapist technical instructor with NHS Lanarkshire, takes the classes across the county including sessions in Blantyre, Motherwell and Wishaw.

She said: “Most of us will suffer back pain at some stage of our lives, but staying active can help us reduce this risk. Exercise has also been shown to be an effective way of alleviating back pain.

“These classes emphasise the important role active exercise has to play.”

Participants are referred to the weekly classes by a physiotherapist.
