ELECTIONS for the Community Council are due to take place on October 28.

Local people on the voters roll for the area are entitled to stand for election.

Nomination forms can be obtained from Andrew Clark , 26 Brankston Avenue. Forms should be filled in and returned by Tuesday, October 14.

STONEHOUSE WRI meet tonight (Thursday) at 7.30pm for their first meeting of the new season.

The speaker for the night will be Mrs Fleming on the subject of ‘The Family Tree.’ Genealogy and tracing ancestors is a fascinating subject.

New members are welcome to the WRI meetings; membership fees for the year are £8.

STONEHOUSE Old Folk’s Welfare Committee held their Opening Social last Wednesday night.

A full turnout of members enjoyed a lovely meal, followed by entertainment from the Caledonians duo.

The October afternoon social will be held on Thursday, October 9, in the Welfare Institute at 2pm.

There will be bingo, tea, and a raffle.

The treasurer will be present and taking names for the pantomime outing on December 19.

This year they will be visiting the Motherwell Civic Centre to see the Wizard of Oz.

Members are encouraged to attend and pick up their tickets.

SENIOR Citizens from 4/5 The Cross recently enjoyed a trip to Stirling. The committee were thanked for their effort in organising the outing.

Tickets are now available for the coffee morning to be held in early November.

STONEHOUSE Bowling Club held a mixed pairs competition on Saturday, sponsored by Wallace Express.

The early part of the day was good with many good games being enjoyed.

The result was that George Bowie and Gail Notman, Hugh and Irene Smith, Billy and Kate Stewart, and Ian Cochrane and Susan Morrison won through to the semi-finals.

However, as the players began to play the semis, rain fell heavily on the green and it became too dangerous to continue. President Tom Notman thanked all the players, the sponsors and the caterers for helping to make it a good day.

The prizes were divided equally among the semi-finalists. The closing events take place this week for all sections of the club.

ST NINIAN’S Parish Church announced on Sunday that the total raised at the Autumn Fayre has now reached £900.

Coffee mornings continue in the church hall every Tuesday at 10am till noon.

Guild members and any member of the congregation who wishes to do so have been invited to attend the Congregational Church at their Guest Night.

This takes place on Monday, October 6, at 7.30pm.

The entertainment will be provided by ‘Same Difference’. Those who are interested in attending would help by giving their names to the secretary for catering purposes.

STONEHOUSE Better World Fund Sportsman's Dinner takes place on Friday, October 3, at Dalziel Park Hotel at 7pm till midnight.

Their will be a steak pie dinner, followed by entertainment from prominent sports personalities. Tickets cost £30.

PATERSON United Free Church Harvest Thanksgiving service will be held on Sunday. The Kirk Session and the Sunday School will make token gifts of produce.

Members of the congregation may also make donations. Mrs Kennedy will be at the church on Saturday between 1pm and 2pm to receive gifts or they can be handed into her home.

The gifts received will be donated to St Andrew’s Hospice in Airdrie. There will be an offering uplifted at the service for the Guide Dog Association. The Committee of Management will meet tonight Thursday, October 2, at 7pm.

The Women's Association Meeting will be held on Monday, October 6, at 2pm.

The speaker will be Georgie McMillan on the subject of Malawi.

Linda Forsyth has volunteered to be Sunday School Superintendent. The Kirk Session approved the appointment at its meeting on Thursday, September 25.

A Prayer and Bible Study meeting will be held in the church offices from 10.30am - 12.30pm on Saturday, October 18. Everyone is invited to attend. The passage to be studied for this meeting is Second Chronicles 7:14.

It is intended to hold these meetings four-times-a-year.

THE Christmas Festival meeting will take place on Thursday, October 9, at 7.30pm at the Cross keys, Queen Street, Stonehouse.

Any groups or organisations wishing to take a stall or participate in the Christmas Fayre opening ceremony on Sunday, December 7, contact John Young 01698 792 479.

STONEHOUSE Folk Club are due to start on Friday, October 10.

This is the first night of the new session beginning at 8pm, and will be a singers night.
