More cash raised to help fund new pipe band

THE NEW pipe band continues to make good progress.

Eight sets of bagpipes and nine new pearl drums and harnesses have been purchased.

At a recent charity night held in Stonehouse Violet Social Club, the sum of £539 was raised.

The prize draw, also drawn that night, raised a further £655.

This was added to by packing bags at Somerfield’s store in Larkhall for two days, which brought in another £551.

The prize draw winners were: Stephen Miller from Hamilton, Brian Kelly from Stonehouse and George Walker from Shotts.

The band this week expressed their thanks to Stonehouse Violet Social Club for their continued support and for the use of their premises twice weekly for practice.

Special thanks also go to Mrs Marion Baxter who donated a dumpling for a ‘Guess The Weight’ competition.

All money raised from now on will got towards buying the band uniforms.

Kilts have been ordered, using 80 metres of Hamilton Tartan, inherited from the old band.

Sporrans have also been ordered and will be engraved with a logo, designed by piper Darren Rees.

The second annual general meeting of the pipe band will take place in the Stonehouse Institute on Tuesday, May 13.
