STONEHOUSE Old Folk’s Welfare Committee held their closing social of the season on Wednesday, March 19.

A large turnout of members enjoyed an excellent meal before sitting back to listen to first-class entertainment from Class Act.

There was also a raffle to complete the evening, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all the members attending.

Those members who wish to go on the outing to Ayr on Thursday, July 3 should see the treasurer in the Welfare Institute on Thursday, June 5, between 11am and noon.

This outing will also include an opportunity to visit Burns’ Cottage and there will also be ample time to browse around the seaside town.

GREEN convener at Stonehouse Bowling Club, Ken Twaddle, would like to thank all the club members for their assistance over the past two weekends.

Help will also be needed over the next two weekends to have the clubhouse and surroundings in good condition for the offiical opening of the season on Saturday, April 26.

Members are also being asked to add their names to the competition sheets posted on the noticeboards in the locker room in plenty of time for the start of the competition.

ST Lawrence Royal Arch Chapter No. 458 will hold their regular meeting on Monday (April 14) at 7.30pm.

Business for the evening includes minutes, correspondence and an exemplification of the EM degree by the visitors from the Victory Royal Arch Chapter No. 450.

REVEREND Paul Grant will conduct the service at St Ninian’s Parish Church on Sunday.

Coffee mornings are also being held in the church hall on Tuesdays from 10am till noon and everyone is welcome to come along and support this event.

Anyone interested in joining the new communicants’ classes which start this month should contact the minister.

Those who wish to attend the Easter Egg group’s concert at Motherwell Civic Centre on April 22 should contact Ann Anderson for further information on the event.

REVEREND Derek Corner conducted the service at Stonehouse United Reform Congregational Church on Sunday.

This week’s service at the Stonehouse church will be taken by Jeff Fowkes.

The Brighter Village group have complimented the church on the condition of their garden and everyone involved in this project deserve praise for their effort.

An invitation has been received to attend the induction of Rev. Gordon Smith which is being held at the Stewarton United Reform Congregational Church on Friday, April 15.

Further information is available from Anne Cowan and it is hoped that many members from the Stonehouse church will be able to attend the service and social evening.

Over £40 was raised for the Sunday School at the Easter social and the members would like to thank everyone for their support.

The Daffodil Tea in St Ninian’s hall on Monday was a great success.

The capacity audience at the event enjoyed a concert by the Covenanters and the ladies of the Young Farmers group. The entertainment was followed by refreshments.

PATERSON United Free Church Committee of Management meet tonight (Thursday) at 7pm when it is hoped there will be a good turnout of members.

A meeting of the Women’s Association will be held on Monday at 2pm. This will also take the form of their annual general meeting followed by entertainment.
