New school is Netherburn’s main goal

NETHERBURN residents have backed plans to build a new £5m primary school on the existing football pitch next to the village’s community hall.

Villagers were given their say on the proposals earlier this year.

All those who responded during the consultation process were in favour of South Lanarkshire Council’s plan.

A replacement pitch will be provided as part of an adjacent housing development.

Members of the council’s executive committee were told that the school site proposal required Local Plan consent.

A deal with a developer to provide the new pitch was also required.

Work on building the new school is scheduled to begin in January 2010.

There will be no need to decant pupils while the new school is being built.
