Man admits running brothel from house in the county

A 47-YEAR-OLD man has admitted running a brothel in Bellshill.

Xue Ren Wang was involved in the management of the sex house at 6 St Andrews Court on May 19 this year, a court heard.

Wang’s not guilty pleas to living off the earnings of prostitution between April 1 and May 19 this year at the same address, and a charge of knowingly permitting the house to be used for the purposes of habitual prostitution, were accepted by the Crown.

Wang used to stay at 6 St Andrews Court but is currently in jail in HM Barlinnie.

A police source told the Advertiser: “We received intelligence regarding the house in St Andrew’s Court and went in with a search warrant on May 19 to determine if it was a brothel. There is a big problem generally with brothels and prostitution.

“Girls are coming over to countries like our own in the hope of a better life but, instead, they find themselves being forced to work in the sex industry.

“Often their families back home are threatened.

“This is a worldwide problem and we urge the public to remain vigilant.”

At Hamilton Sheriff Court , Wang pleaded guilty.

Sheriff Rae Small deferred sentence until September 5 for reports.

He remanded Wang in custody until that date.
