Club hold special evening to say big thank-you to local hospital’s care team

MEMBERS of Wishaw Ex-Servicemen’s Club were so impressed with the care they received by Wishaw General’s colorectal team, they decided to hold a charity night to thank the staff.

And recently, Charlie Calderwood and Eric Hardie from the club handed over a cheque for £720 to the department, which also treats patients with bowel cancer.

The money was raised at a charity night held on Friday, June 20, with entertainment provided by four guest singers, bingo and raffles.

Charlie, whose daughter Lorna MacNicol works in the Colorectal Unit, explained why the club had decided to raise money for the department.

He said: “Bowel cancer does not seem to get the same publicity as other cancers, despite the fact it is one of the most common, so we thought we could help raise its profile a bit and make people more aware of it.

“Quite a few of the club’s committee, including myself and Eric, have had a colonoscopy done and we have all commented on how well we were treated by the team.

“Raising money for the department was a good way to say thank you to all the staff who looked after us.”
