POLICE in the Motherwell area are this week warning motorists to keep their cars safe this summer.
The advice from the crime prevention officers comes after two incidents in Muirhouse, Motherwell.
The first incident took place at about 11.40pm on July 29 when a black Renault Clio was broken into in the car park of Netherwood Tower.
A bluetooth headset was stolen.
The second incident took place between 10pm on July 29 and 9.15am the following day.
A black X registration Peugeot 206 was broken into in the car park of Woodside Tower.
A set of Sony speakers were stolen from the back parcel shelf of the car.
Entry was gained to both vehicles by breaking windows.
Constable Derek McWhinnie of Motherwell Police Office said: "These incidents are examples of opportunist crimes. When parking in communal car parks people should, where possible, park near to street lights and in areas with good visibility.
“Removing items of value from vehicles will reduce the risk of it being targeted as will fitting an alarm to cars. I appeal to anyone who witnessed either of these incidents to contact the police.
“I also urge anyone who observes any suspicious behaviour in public car parks to contact the police. People do not have to give their name.”
A GOLD Volvo S60 and a blue Ford Ka were vandalised overnight between July 28 and July 29 at The Loaning, Motherwell.
Both cars were scratched by an instrument in the incidents.
On the Volvo the letters ‘M’ and ‘W’ were inscribed onto the car.
Anyone who has any further information on these incidents should contact PC Rowan at Motherwell Police Office or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 for free and in complete confidence..
