BETTY Dundas is planning to make the most of her days after retiring from 34 years of nightshift with NHS Lanarkshire.
The Wishaw woman recently retired as a nursing assistant from the Airbles Road Centre in Motherwell, which provides day care services for older people.
Betty had started her career with the NHS in June 1974 in Ward 31 at Law Hospital before being transferred to the Colville Ward at Airbles in 2001.
She is now planning to spend more time with husband Andrew, who also recently retired, and their four grandchildren.
Betty said: “Although I’ve always been part-time I’ve been on permanent night shift for 34 years so having seven full days will take a bit of getting used to.
“I’ve made some good friends in my time at Airbles Road and have always enjoyed the work.
“There was always so much variety to the job and it has never been boring so I will certainly miss it.
“But I’m looking forward to being a lady of leisure, going on holidays, doing some gardening and I’m also thinking about taking up bowling and golf.”
James Wilson, charge nurse at the Airbles Road Centre, wished Betty well for the future.
He said: “She will be sorely missed by everyone here. Betty has always been very popular and has always been great company on our nights out.
“The patients will miss her as well as she is a very kind person.
“We all wish her well in her retirement.”
