COUNCIL tax collection rates in North Lanarkshire have improved for the 10th year in a row after the council raised £93m for the year 2007/08 – an increase of £4 million on the previous year.
The authority this week praised public co-operation for the increase in council tax recovered, which will help bolster the council’s general income, and be used to support a large number of services to residents.
Councillor John Pentland, convener of policy and resources (finance and customer dervices) sub-committee, said: “Public co-operation throughout North Lanarkshire is very high. Unfortunately, there are occasions when we have to take measures when payment is not forthcoming.
“This can take the form of wage/bank arrestments where appropriate, a streamlined follow-up process for repeat offenders and agreeing arrangements which reschedule debt within the financial year.”
