PLANS to convert part of a Motherwell hotel into a children’s nursery were last week refused.
Councillors at a meeting of North Lanarkshire’s planning and transportation committee rejected plans which would have seen part of Dalziel Park Hotel being changed into a day care nursery operating from 7.30am-6.30pm.
The application attracted no objections from neighbours and other parties.
However, the site lies on green belt land which means that the nursery would be a new business.
Officials said in their report to the committee that “it would have no associated rural use and therefore is contrary to the policy”.
Officials also advised councillors to reject the plans on the basis that it would set an “undesirable precedent for further inappropriate green belt development”.
