STRATHCLYDE Police are advising car owners to take extra care with their belongings following a series of motor vehicle break-ins in recent weeks.
They say satellite navigation systems are the main target, but other items such as mobile phones and laptops are also at risk.
Car parks in Motherwell town centre, Wishaw town centre and Wishaw General Hospital have been named as the most likely sites for crimes of this kind.
Local crime reduction officer Dougie Denholm said: “Attractive items such as mobile phones, laptop computers, credit cards, cash and recently purchased shopping which are left in view may be too much of a temptation to the would-be thief.
“Most vehicles have lockable glove-boxes and out-of- view stowage compartments for secreting items if necessary.
“Other items such as house keys, mail with your home address and your driving documents should never be left in the car.”
