A WORKER has died afterapparently becoming trapped by a sheet of metal.
The 25-year-old was crushed to death in the horrific accident at the Henderson Kerr scrapyard in Kirklee Road, Bellshill, on Monday.
Police say Craig Lochrie of Mill Road Street in the east end of Glasgow was cutting metal with burning equipment when he became crushed by a part that became dislodged.
Paramedics were called to the yard at around 10.55am after the alarm was raised by another worker.
Craig was taken to Monklands General Hospital in Airdrie but died of his injuries.
The Health and Safety Executive will now carry out a full enquiry.
A spokesman for Strathclyde Police said: "A 25-year-old man has died following an industrial accident at a local scrap merchants company in Kirklee Road.
“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Work appeared to be going on as normal today (Thursday) at the yard which is in the middle of a residential area in the Moss Park area of Bellshill.
The company recycle scrap metal including used cars and machinery for use in industry.
It runs four depots in Central Scotland, delivering to foundries throughout the United Kingdom.
