Witnesses sought after two Motherwell attacks in one night

POLICE were this week appealing for witnesses after two men were assaulted in the Motherwell area.

The first incident took place at a bus stop on Bellshill Road, on Friday, April 25, at about 11.20am.

A 28-year-old man was standing at the bus stop when he was struck on the back of his head.

He turned to find two men standing behind him. The men did not speak and the 28-year-old walked off.

The first suspect is described as being aged between 21 and 25, 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in tall, stocky and with brown hair. He was wearing a red-and-white tracksuit top and blue jeans.

The second suspect is described as being between 20 and 25 years old, of medium build and with red hair. He was wearing a black tracksuit.

The man was not badly injured as a result of this assault.

Anyone who has any further information on this incident should contact PC Scott at Wishaw Police Office.

The second unrelated incident took place on a busy street in the town about 5.15pm Friday when a 27-year-old man was walking along Windmillhill Street, near to the Flemington roundabout. He was approached by the suspect, who asked him for money.

The victim refused to give him cash and the suspect pushed him to the ground then walked off in the direction of the town centre.

A passing bus driver is believed to have witnessed the incident and called out to the suspect to stop.

The suspect is described as being aged 27 and 5ft 10in tall. He was wearing a white New York Yankees baseball cap, black jacket, light-blue jeans and dirty white trainers.

Constable Derek McWhinnie said: “I would appeal to any person who witnessed this incident, and in particular the bus driver, to come forward. Also, if anyone recognises the description of the suspect and believes they know his identity, they should contact Motherwell police office.”
