A BUSINESS development executive, from Wishaw, has taken unusual steps to raise money for the West of Scotland Deaf Children’s Society… by taking part in a sponsored pole dance.
Lynn Sirrell and her friends at Wishaw’s Pole Dancing Club — an increasingly popular way of keeping fit — raised more than £3000 for the charity.
They got involved through their teacher, who was born deaf in one ear but through the help and support of the organisation has received a life-changing operation to restore her hearing.
Lynn, who works for Cadbury, and the rest of the group took part in a four-hour pole dance, taking it in turns to complete three one-minute routines.
Cadbury’s drumming gorilla, made famous through the recent advertising campaign, even made an impromptu appearance on the evening, taking part in a ‘dance off’ to Phil Collins’s In The Air Tonight.
The cash was raised through sponsorship, entry fees and a raffle, and a further contribution was made through Cadbury Trebor Bassett’s Cash Match initiative.
The West of Scotland Deaf Children’s Society was founded in 1947 by parents of deaf children and has since grown to more than 300 members.
The society provides information and advice on many aspects of childhood deafness, including diagnosis, hearing aids, technology, education and benefits.
