Council ready to dump bin collection system in Motherwell

RESIDENTS living in Motherwell are set to switch to fortnightly bin collections in August.

North Lanarkshire Council this week announced plans to implement their new recycling initiatives that will accompany changes to the bin collection system.

Residents living in Motherwell can continue to use their bins as normal until Monday, August 25.

However, residents living in the Airdrie, Coatbridge and Cumbernauld will be asked to start using their blue recycling bins for the disposal of plastic food containers and bottles; steel, aluminium and empty aerosol cans; textiles; newspapers, magazines, telephone directories and junk mail; tetrapak cartons (eg. juice and milk cartons); clean aluminium foil and both plain and corrugated cardboard.

A publicity campaign is under way to tell residents how the new scheme will work. Officers are making home visits, and other staff are meeting with community representatives across North Lanarkshire.

Roadshows will be taking place across North Lanarkshire in the coming weeks to give residents the opportunity to put their questions to officers.

And in the next week a special link from the council’s internet home page will provide easy access to all the available information.

Residents in Motherwell should continue to use their bins as normal until August 25.

In the meantime the council will continue to issue information and to work with residents to ensure the new scheme is implemented and delivered as smoothly as possible.

More information can be obtained from the council’s environmental helpline on 01698 403110.
