About Larkhall

Larkhall is situated 20 miles South East of Glasgow and is one of South Lanarkshire’s. It sits between the River Avon and River Clyde.

Conventionally a mining, weaving, textile and mining town, Larkhall is a distinctive West of Scotland village. The town was also once home to a rich iron and steel trade.

The Morglen Glen viaduct is one of the town’s most famous landmarks. At over 170 ft tall, it is Scotland’s highest standing viaduct.

It is rapidly becoming a hugely popular commuter town for Glasgow. Since the dawn of the new millennium several thousand new houses have been built in the area and the local railway station was re-opened in December 2005.

It is now part of the Argyle Line with trains running every 30 minutes to Glasgow Central and further to Dalmuir.

The town has one high school, Larkhall Academy, six primary schools;  Machanhill, Glengowan, Robert Smillie Memorial, Craig bank, St Mary’s and Hareleeshill.

Larkhall is neighbouring villages include Netherburn, Ashgill and Stonehouse.

It is also home to the 2006 World Snooker Champion, Graeme Dott.

The town also shares the same name as an area in the London Borough of Lambeth.

Larkhall is an affluent and avid footballing community. There are two local junior football teams; these are Larkhall Thistle F.C. and Royal Albert F.C
