Octoberfest will be packed with fun activities
HUNDREDS of parents wondering what to do with their bored children over the school holidays are being urged to get them involved in a new youth festival.
Octoberfest, which will take place across Larkhall, is packed full of fun activities and includes a wide range of sport, leisure and arts activities provided by the town’s youth services.
RegentFX youth trust, Universal Connections, Terminal One, community wardens, South Lanarkshire Leisure and Strathclyde Police have joined forces to organise a host of fantastic activities from streetdance to football tournaments and skateboarding to drama to ensure there really is something for everyone.
Larkhall Labour councillor Jackie Burns, the council’s spokesman on youth issues, has urged children aged eight to 16 to take part in the wide range of activities on offer over the October school holiday.
“Octoberfest is great example of partnership working and shows what can be done for young people when services come together.
“I am sure Octoberfest will be a great success in providing youngsters with healthy and fun activities during the school break.
“It is the first time that we have given youngsters in Larkhall the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of activities, and we will be looking to extend the project next year.”
The school’s October break takes place between Monday, October 13 to Friday, October 17.
The following activities will be available at Larkhall Leisure Centre on Monday, Wednesday and Friday: Free entrance to swimming pool for aged 8 to 16 (10am to 11am), Free entrance to SHOKK junior gym for aged 8 to 15 (10am to 4pm), Junior Spin Class, age 8 to 15 (noon to 1pm), Street Dance workshop 1, age 8 to 16 (2pm to 3pm), Pool Disco, age 8 to 16 (3pm to 4pm).
Radworx Skateboarding for aged 10 to 18 will take place at Harleeshill Sportsbarn on Monday and Tuesday between 10.30am and 3pm.
Streetleague Practice (to be booked in advance) for aged 12 to 16 will be held at Robert Ferguson Pitches, Hareleeshill, from 10am to 4pm (two hour slots) on Monday and Tuesday.
Streetleague Football Tournament for aged 12 to 16, will be held at the Robert Ferguson Pitches, Harleeshill, from 2pm to 4pm on Wednesday.
Also on Wednesday Interactive Arts (music and animation for aged 12 to 16 will be held at Hareleeshill Sports Barn from 10am to 2pm.
On Thursday, Express Yourself (dance and drama) for age 12 to 16 will take place at Hareleeshill Sports Barn from 10am to 2pm.
On the same day, Break a World Record for age 10 and over will take place at Robert Ferguson Pitches, Hareleeshill, from 2pm to 4pm.
The Octoberfest will finish on Friday with youngsters being able to take part in Sportsworx Sports Day, Digibus and Climbing Wall, for age 10 and over at Robert Ferguson Pitches, Hareleeshill Sports Barn, from 10am to 4pm.
