Larkhall Academy pupils met First Minister in Big Apple

LARKHALL Academy pupils met Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond when they were on a trip to America.

Twenty-one pupils and three members of staff from the arts department were visiting New York when some of them bumped into Mr Salmond, who was in the city for Tartan Week.

The party spent five jammed-packed days visiting famous landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, Ground Zero, Chinatown, Grand Central Station, Times Square, the Museum of Modern Art, Natural History Museum and Planetarium, and a cruise to see the famous New York skyline.

They also visited Lower Manhattan on a movies tour, ate in the famous Hard Rock Cafe, Planet Hollywood, Olive Garden and Bubba Gumps, plus saw Broadway musical, Hairspray.

They even managed some shopping time in the Big Apple.

The trip was hailed a great success by all who went.
