MSP asks public to sign up to save the Royal Mail

THE SNP MSP for South of Scotland, has encouraged people in Clydesdale to sign a petition calling on the Prime Minister not to privatise Royal Mail.

The petition, launched by the Communication Workers Union, is on the official Number 10 Downing Street website at http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/Royal-Mail-Sale/.

Last year, Aileen Campbell campaigned with communities across Clydesdale to try to stop the closure of Post Office branches in Lanark, Larkhall, Lesmahagow and New Lanark as part of the Network Change Programme.

The MSP has now expressed her fear that privatisation of part of the Royal Mail could continue to hit services which communities depend upon.

Commenting on the petition, Aileen Campbell said: “I would encourage everyone in Lanark, Larkhall, Lesmahagow and across Clydesdale who value the role that Royal Mail and the Post Office play in our community to sign this petition.

“The UK Labour Government need to get the message loud and clear that privatisation of the Royal Mail is a privatisation too far. Previous petitions on this website have helped to generate public awareness and encourage the Government to change their mind, so I hope this petition will also be successful in stopping the damaging privatisation of our mail services.”
