20 upmarket homes on way for Cleghorn

COUNCILLORS have approved plans for 20 new luxury homes in the village of Cleghorn.

A meeting of South Lanarkshire Council’s planning committee gave R. F. Chattelle (Developments) Ltd permission for the scheme on vacant land south of 112 Hagholm Road.

The committee also agreed to proposals for a new access road and diverting a small stream.

The two-storey five-bedroomed homes will see a stream linking with the Mouse being diverted.

Councillors considering the proposals heard an archaeological survey of the area had been carried out and the only feature discovered was evidence of a bipartite pit close to the southern boundary.

The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency were among organisations consulted by the council and they supported plans to divert the watercourse to prevent flooding.

Also consulted were Scottish Natural Heritage who asked for extra planting and screening between the site and an adjacent area where badgers live.

The West of Scotland Archaeology Service revealed in a report that since there were a significant number of archaeological remains in the area, it was felt an archaeological evaluation should be undertaken.

This uncovered the remains of two Roman features, which would be protected. Councillors also agreed to a request for an evaluation of a larger part of the development site be undertaken.

In granting planning permission, councillors agreed that while there was no need for a children’s play area because the development was too small, the applicant would be required to pay £600 per house to the council.

This money would be used for “the improvement of the existing sport/recreational facility within the local area.”
