Forth residents to have say on revamp work

MEMBERS of the public are being asked for their views on proposed improvement works in the village of Forth when consultation sessions take place there next week.

These sessions will be on Tuesday from 3pm to 7pm at the Community Flat, 57 Hawkwood Terrace, and on Wednesday from 9.30am to 1.30pm at Bank Terrace sheltered housing complex at Climpy Road.

The works have an estimated cost of £400,000 and include proposals to resurface Main Street between Climpy Road and Kirk Green, as well as the resurfacing of footpaths in the same area.

It is also proposed that specific parking bays will be created on Main Street, double kerbs will be removed where possible, and drop crossings will be introduced where appropriate.

Extra crossing points for pedestrians are also being proposed, along with the use of natural granite paving materials in key locations and the possible introduction of new street furniture.

Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s enterprise resources committee, councillor Chris Thompson, said: “The streetscape works have a number of key objectives.

“We hope the people of Forth come along to have a detailed look at our proposals.

“We feel the works will bring an improved aesthetic look for the village centre and will improve pedestrian access, particularly for disabled people.

“The works will also improve parking provision and road safety along Main Street.

Councillor Thomson added: “We are confident the improvements will significantly benefit the community and improve the environment for locals, visitors and traders alike.

“The installation of street furniture and provision of planters is also being investigated.”
