CARLUKE Camera Club held their members’ image night on Friday. On these popular nights everyone gets a chance to show some of their work from holidays and outings.
The first half featured a presentation of the Scottish Print Circle centenary exhibition. Circle member Bob Copeland filled in the background information. This was a fascinating insight into photography in Scotland over the past 100 years.
The second half saw a selection of themes and style from the members.
Next Friday is the annual competition night. To accommodate the large entry, the meeting will start at 7pm sharp.
Judge for the evening is Peter Paterson from Edinburgh Photographic Society.
BRAIDWOOD Primary School have achieved bronze and silver status as part of the Health Promoting School campaign.
Pupils were given the opportunity to make fruit smoothies and given advice on how to promote a healthy lifestyle. A team from Carluke High helped with the campaign.
The pupils hope to gain gold status later in the year.
ST John’s Church have a coffee morning this Saturday from 10am till noon to help raise funds for Claire Webster to attend the Sydney International Youth Festival.
ST John’s Trekkers have a seven-mile walk at Loch Lomond on Saturday. Transport will leave from St John’s Church at 9am prompt. There will also be a short train journey which costs £2.30.

A LARGE audience enjoyed the music of the talented Lanark and Carluke Choral Union on Sunday evening in St Mary’s Church, Lanark.
The orchestra was in the capable hands of Angus Ramsay and conducted by Philip Fox. Soloists included Melissa Lunn (contralto), Benjamin Weaver (bass) and Laura Lennon (soprano).
THE art group Brushstrokes have enjoyed another successful session. They have an exhibition of their work in New Lanark Counting House from Thursday to Sunday. All proceeds will be donated to Riding for the Disabled.
Classes are held in St Athanasius School and Carluke Baptist Church. New members will be given a warm welcome.
CARLUKE Gala Day Committee will conduct their house-to-house collection this week.

NEXT month’s Christian Men’s Breakfast will be held in St Andrew’s Church on Saturday, May 3, at 8.30am. The speaker will be Gary Brotherston, a reformed criminal who has a wonderful testimony. All men are welcome to attend.

PRESIDENT of Kilncadzow WRI, Rae Anderson, welcomed members to the agm in St John’s Church hall last Thursday. She also gave a report on the past session.
The officials were re-elected en-bloc. Members then enjoyed a demonstration on the making of lavender bags by Rae followed by supper supplied by the president.
Trophy winners for 2007/08 session were: Golden Jubilee Trophy — Mae Shier; Lawson Trophy — Barbara Mackie; third place — Rae Anderson.
The Kilncadzow ladies thank St John’s Church and St Andrew’s Church for the use of their halls during the last session.
Places are still available for the outing to Crieff and Perth on Thursday, May 22, leaving St John’s Church at 9.30am. Anyone wishing to go on this outing should give their name to Sandra.
ST Athanasius thank everyone who supported their collection for Foster Vocations which raised £425.
First Holy Communions will take place on Saturdays, May 3 and 10. Both groups are invited to a reception and have their photograph taken on Sunday, May 11, at 11.15am Mass.
A cleaner will be required when the hall is officially opened. Flexible hours of up to 15 hours per week will be available. Anyone interested should contact Father Naughton as soon as possible.
A men’s weekend at Scotus College has been arranged for June 6-8. Details are posted on the church notice board.
Car parking for all services is now in the new hall car park. Only emergency vehicles should park around the house and church.
FOUR members of Carluke Young Farmers will represent Lanarkshire this year — vice-chairman David Aitken, assistant secretary Susan McCormick, and sports conveners Graeme Barr and Christina Lindsay.
The club won the junior points trophy and the seniors took third place.
Netball practices have now started at Forth Sports Centre on Sundays from 6pm till 7pm. Football practices are held at Moor Park on Sundays at 6.45pm.
CASTLEHILL junior bowlers held their opening on Saturday morning, with the oldest junior John Jackson declaring the green open for another season. A game of bowls was played before an enjoyable meal prepared by Mrs Muncie and the parents.
CARLUKE Bowling Club held their opening of the green on Saturday. President Alan Mathers welcomed members and guests to the event. Alan’s wife Wilma threw the first bowl and received the traditional silver jack and a gift from vice-president James Martin. A meal and social completed the day. The seniors’ section opened on Tuesday, with the juniors and ladies opening this Saturday.
CASTLEHILL Bowling Club’s ladies’ section opened last Tuesday. The green was officially opened by president Nan Greenwood. Vice-president Rachel Patterson presented Nan with jewellery to commemorate the day.
Eight ends were played, with the first toucher being Betty Simpson. The winning rink comprised May Bryson, Mamie Laird, Jessie Lennon and A. McLean.
