Police warning after youngsters pelt bus with snowballs

POLICE this week insisted bus firms could withdraw their services in parts of Larkhall where their vehicles come under attack from yobs throwing snowballs.

The stark warning came after a bus driver and his passengers had a lucky escape after mindless yobs pelted his vehicle with snowballs in Larkhall town centre.

The bus was targeted while travelling along Union Street last Tuesday at 9.50pm.

The snowball shattered the driver’s windscreen in the attack.

Neither the driver or his passengers were hurt.

Police warned it was fortunate the incident did not cause far more serious consequences.

Inspector Andy Munro, of Larkhall Police Office, said: “As always this type of irresponsible act can lead to damage to buses and as a result the service being provided to the community could suffer.

“Any object that is thrown at a moving vehicle has the potential to cause serious harm to the driver or passengers within and could also lead to a serious accident.

“Any member of the public who witnesses such actions or has information is encouraged to contact the police with details of those individuals responsible for such dangerous acts.”

Witnesses should contact Larkhall Police Office on 202300, or alternatively telephone Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, where calls are free and anonymity can be maintained.
