STONEHOUSE Development Trust were granted almost half a million pounds to refurbish the village’s public institute.
There was further good news as seven jobs will be created after Stonehouse Development Trust were granted the £465,999 needed to refurbish the building.
The revamp will develop a key shared business centre and childcare hub, supporting three enterprises.
This money is bringing a derelict site back into use whilst delivering new jobs.
Stonehouse Development Trust embarked on the ambitious plan to take over ownership and management of the Public Institute in the village as a childcare facility, community resource and business support centre.
It is a community enterprise not-for-profit initiative.
Initially, they were hoping to secure £1.2 million from the Regional European Development Fund and the National Lottery Assets Fund.
Now that almost £500,000 has been granted, 21st century design principles will be employed in the renovation of the building to ensure the new facility is user and eco-friendly.
The news has been welcomed by MSP Christina McKelvie.
The SNP MSP for Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse, said: “The money, granted from the European Structural Fund, will bring a huge benefit for the local community.”
Jeff Frew, of the Stonehouse Development Trust, said: “Residents and interested parties can view the plans, discuss the proposed development and give their ideas and suggestions as to how this project can be a well-used and sustainable resource for the Stonehouse community.”
Ms McKelvie added: “This is fantastic news for Stonehouse that will bring a huge economic benefit for the area.
“I’m delighted the Trust have been recognised as a key player in the future of Stonehouse after being granted the money to develop 369 sq.m of business space.
“In this current economic climate, a cash injection like this is vital to support jobs, boost growth and invest in local communities.
“I’m looking forward to seeing this project unfold in the coming months.”
