Man glassed by woman in Viewpark bar

A MAN was left with severe injuries following a serious assault in Viewpark in the early hours of Sunday morning, police said this week.

The 30-year-old victim was within Hotel Capo’s bar at 2.50am on November 13 when it has been alleged he was attacked by a 20-year-old female.

The woman is believed to have taken exception to finding a hair in her drink and in a fit of rage allegedly smashed a glass into the face of the man.

Bellshill uniformed officers along with CID attended the scene and dealt with the incident, later tracing the suspect at her home.

Staff within the bar helped administer first aid to the injured man before he was taken to Monklands Hospital where he was treated for facial injuries.

A police spokesman at Bellshill Police Office said: “Following an incident of a male being seriously assaulted at Hotel Capo’s after a glass was struck in his face, a female has now been arrested and will appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

“This was a particularly vicious incident and appeared to have occurred for a relatively minor disagreement.

The spokesman also issued a warning to people going out for parties in the run-up to the festive season period.

He said: “During the run-up to Christmas and New Year when people are going out more often, these types of incidents can escalate, causing some very serious complaints made to the police.

“The police would warn anyone who is going out to watch what they are drinking as overindulging could ultimately leave them open to becoming a victim of criminality.”

The spokesman added: “I can assure members of the public that the police will be patrolling the streets over the festive period to keep them safe although people themselves also need to take precautions.

“They should try to stay in groups and not wander off on their own to get home. Use local taxis and tell family and friends where you are going to make sure someone knows where you are.

“The police will treat any incident of violence very seriously and any person found to be violent in licence premises, public places or in the home will find themselves in custody.”
