Bothwell woman in shock when neighbour’s car crashed into her car and house
A PENSIONER was left shocked and stunned last Friday after a Jaguar driven by a neighbour hit her car and her house.
The “out of control” car careered up Jean Hazeltine’s driveway at 14 Lytham Meadows, Bothwell, last Friday about 5.35pm.
At the wheel was Satya Chakrabarti of 22 Lytham Meadows, a doctor at Wishaw General Hospital.
The Jaguar hit Mrs Hazeltine’s Kia Picanto, moving it into her garden and rockery, and then went on to strike the house, damaging the brickwork and guttering.
Mrs Hazeltine said she would not be able to live in parts of her house while waiting for repairs and described the situation as a “nightmare.”
She told the Advertiser: “I really can’t believe what happened. I was in my house relaxing. It was such a shock.
“He drove from his house at number 22, across the road, right over the roundabout and up my driveway – and part of the neighbours’ driveway – at speed.
“His car hit my Kia Picanto, which ended up in my garden and rockery.
“The Jaguar hit the side of my house. The brickwork and guttering are damaged and there are tyre marks along my drive and in my flower beds.
“Boulders dislodged from my rockery during the incident are still sitting on my front step.”
Mrs Hazeltine said one front wing of the Jaguar was bashed after hitting her car and the other wing from hitting her house. The Picanto’s door was badly damaged along with a wheel.
Mrs Hazeltine added: “This incident has caused me a lot of unnecessary stress. My blood pressure is very high as a result. I’ve had to do a lot of work with insurers and the like to get things sorted out.
“The police said it was an accident and he lost control of his car.
“I’m very angry at the situation.”
A Strathclyde Police spokesman this week confirmed an accident had occurred in the quiet cul-de-sac last Friday evening.
She said: “Police were called to a report of a car crash at a property in Lytham Meadows, Bothwell, at approximately 5.35pm on Friday, Nov-ember 4.
“Officers attended and there were no reports of any injuries.
“A car being driven by a 66-year-old man appears to have crashed into another car parked in a driveway.
“No charges are being brought against the driver.”
Mrs Uma Chakrabarti contacted the Advertiser after we got in touch with the couple.
She said the matter had been unintentional and was in the hands of insurers.
