Young man suffers broken jaw after attack by six people outside Hamilton town centre pub

A YOUNG man suffered a broken jaw after being viciously attacked by six people outside a Hamilton town centre pub.

Detectives were this week hunting three men and three women who brutally assaulted the 23-year-old outside Doherty’s in Castle Street at the Bottom Cross.

The injured man, who was wearing a yellow top, had spent the evening of Sunday, September 25, with a friend drinking in the pub.

He left the bar alone at about 11.40pm when his attackers pounced.

The gang then rained down blows to his head and body in the assault.

Police and paramedics arrived on the scene and the victim was taken by ambulance to Wishaw General Hospital.

He was later transferred to Glasgow’s Southern General Hospital where he underwent surgery for a fractured jaw.

The assailants – three men and three women – made off towards the taxi rank outside the Hamilton Palace premises in Keith Street.

Detective Constable Gerry Boyle, who is leading the hunt for the gang, has appealed for witnesses to come forward.

“The area around Doherty's Bar is a busy area of Hamilton town centre,” he said.

“Anyone who was in Docherty's and remembers seeing the victim in his distinctive bright yellow top, or any passer-by who observed the assault taking place, should contact me immediately.”

Witnesses should contact Hamilton CID on 483300, or alternatively telephone Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, where calls are free and anonymity can be maintained.
