POLICE were this week hunting a couple after an unprovoked assault on a woman in High Blantyre.
The 23-year-old victim was attacked from behind by a “cowardly” man and woman as she walked home in the early hours of last Sunday, June 19.
She suffered head and facial injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The woman was walking along Kirkton Avenue at around 2.50am, said a Strathclyde Police spokesman.
When she was near to Waverley Terrace, she was approached from behind and pulled to the ground.
What followed was a brutal attack, with the victim sustaining serious injuries. The suspects, a male and a female, then fled.
Detectives are now appealing for witnesses to the attack.
The man was described as wearing a dark hooded top with a white stripe on the back of the hood, blue jeans and white Nike trainers.
The women wore jeans and white high-top trainers with pink sole.
Detective constable Neil Wilson, who is leading the investigation, said this week: “This was a particularly cowardly attack on a young woman who was simply going about her own business.
“I would like to reassure the community that we are working hard to identify the persons responsible.
“I would ask anyone who may have been in the area where the attack took place to contact me.
“Alternatively, please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
