Positive response from Motherwell residents on Sainsbury's proposals

SUPERMARKET giants Sainsbury’s held a two-day public consultation last week.

The event at the Moorings Hotel, Motherwell, aimed to showcase their proposals for the first Sainsbury’s store in North Lanarkshire. Over 200 members of the public attended.

The proposed store will be 60,000 sq. ft. and will include about 500 parking spaces. It will also provide up to 400 full- and part-time jobs.

Paul Miller, the store giant’s national development surveyor for Scotland, said: “The exhibition was a great opportunity to discuss our proposals for Motherwell and we are pleased so many members of the community attended.

“At first count, approximately 80 per cent of the surveys we have received so far are in support of our plans to bring Sainsbury’s to Motherwell. The community were also clearly eager to express their views on how we can better deliver our plans for the town, and these comments are currently being evaluated by the team.

“Sainsbury’s welcome feedback from everyone on our proposals, and we are committed to using this feedback to better reflect the needs of shoppers in Motherwell. For those who didn’t get a chance to fill one out on the day, you can still send us your feedback at www.motherwell-sainsburys.co.uk.”

As yet no application for planning permission has been received by North Lanarkshire Council.
