Fourth stabbing incident in three weeks in Motherwell

POLICE are this week investigating yet another alleged stabbing incident in Motherwell.

In the latest incident a 29-year-old man was stabbed in broad daylight at 4.30pm on Saturday, February 26.

It is believed he had been involved in a dispute over items of property being collected from a nearby garage when a man is alleged to have stabbed the victim in the stomach.

The incident took place in Church Street, Newarthill.

The man was taken to Monklands Hospital with a severe puncture wound.

Police have said his injuries are not life-threatening.

A 23-year-old man, who was said to be brandishing a weapon and conducting himself in a disorderly manner, was arrested by police.

He was held in police custody and a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

This is the fourth alleged stabbing incident in the last three weeks in Motherwell.

Last week, two men were the victims of a brutal unprovoked stabbing as they walked along the town’s Shields Drive in the early hours of Monday, February 20.

The friends were attacked by a group of approximately 10 men and women.

One of the men was assaulted, beaten and stabbed in the stomach and hand. He also received cuts to his head, a broken nose and cheek bone.

The second man was chased by three men from the group, as he tried to help his friend, and stabbed to the abdomen.

He was left injured on the ground as the suspects fled into nearby woodland.

Furthermore, a Newarthill man and a teenager appeared in court recently after an alleged stabbing at Silverburn Crescent on Sunday, February 13.

A 33-year-old man was arrested and charged with the attempted murder of a 26-year-old man.
