Indecent assault on teenager investigated

POLICE are investigating an indecent assault on a teenage girl in Bellshill.

The 14-year-old was approached by a man on a grassy area at the rear of Robert Burns Quadrant on Tuesday, February 15, at 8.30pm.

The man assaulted the teenager and then made off towards the town’s Glebe Street.

The suspect was wearing dark coloured clothing.

The girl did not require hospital treatment but was extremely traumatised by the incident.

Forensic officers have been examining the scene.

Detective Inspector John Jack said: “Extensive enquiries have been ongoing in the Bellshill area since this incident was reported to us and I would urge anyone with information that may assist our enquiries to come forward.

“The area where the incident happened is popular with dog walkers and I would urge anyone who may have been in that area around the time of the incident on February 15 to contact police as they may have unwittingly witnessed something vital to this enquiry.”
