Porsche stolen in Stonehouse attack

POLICE are this week appealing for witnesses after a Stonehouse man was attacked and his Porsche car stolen.

The 39-year-old from McKinnes Grove in the village was battered over the head and shoved aside as he was scraping ice from his car last Friday, January 7.

He had his ignition on in the car to defrost his windows as he was about to leave for work.

The attacker jumped into the black 1997 Porsche Boxster, worth a five-figure sum, and tried to drive away.

But the thief had difficulty in manoeuvring the car and struck the side of the house, causing some minor damage to the vehicle.

He managed to get away and took the car on a joyride.

Police later found the Porsche abandoned in Station Road, Strathaven.

The thief was described as aged between 30-39 and was of a stocky build. He was wearing a black hat when he committed the crime.

Police said this was the second such incident in which an opportunist thief had struck in the village.

Inspector Andy Munro, for Stonehouse area, said: “A recent incident in Stonehouse has again highlighted the fact that individuals are all too capable of seizing the opportunity to steal a vehicle whilst the owners have returned to the house or left their vehicle unattended with the engine running to heat up.

“I would ask everyone to be aware of this and take the necessary precautions to prevent this happening to them.”
