Uddingston congregation say farewell to guide dog Daysie

THE congregation of Uddingston’s Park Church this week said an emotional farewell to a canine friend.

Golden labrador Daysie, who has been looked after by church member Doreen Stone since last autumn, is off to the Guide Dogs for the Blind’s Forfar premises for full-time training.

Daysie has attended Park Church with Doreen, a Guide Dog for the Blind volunteer puppy walker, most Sundays lying quietly at Doreen’s feet.

Daysie arrived in Uddingston aged six weeks and a birthday celebration took place on Sunday.

Her time with Doreen has been sponsored by Lanarkshire business Daysoft lenses.

Doreen said this week that she will miss Daysie’s company.

“She’s an angel really. She has been such a pleasure to look after from day one, and I appreciate Daysoft making my care of Daysie possible,” she commented.

Bothwell Guide Dog for the Blind volunteer puppy walker Elizabeth Ann Stewart added: “Daysie arrived in Uddingston a six-week bundle of fun and has grown into a calm, confident dog. We trust that, with the experience gained in the community of Uddingston and beyond, Daysie will one day give freedom and independence to someone who is visually impaired.”
